One month after being known in that island, curated by Yina Jiménez Suriel and Pablo Guardiola. From August 27 until November 15, 2020.

The new cultural foundation Kulturstiftung Basel H.Geiger (KBH.G) opens its permanent exhibition space in Basel, Switzerland and commissioned CAI for the first exhibition.

Though the connection between the city of Basel and the Caribbean may not be obvious at first glance, the cultural foundation Kulturstiftung Basel H. Geiger decided it would be a timely and appropriate way to kick off the exhibition activities in this German-speaking, France-adjacent Swiss city with a group show devoted to contemporary Caribbean art.

The curators were selected through an open call by the CAI in 2019 to serve as the curatorial team for the exhibition. The process reflects CAI’s aim to offer an opportunity to Caribbean curators living or born in the region, with a track record of writing on and curating Caribbean art, to share their perspective on present-day Caribbean artistic production.

This inaugural exhibition is dedicated to the memory of Sibylle Permattei Geiger, who passed away just weeks before the opening.
